A Medico-historical Study on Morbilli-Based on Medical Classics and History Books of Korea

Abstract
The author has tried to trace the changes of the names signifying morbilli, the concept on the aetiology of morbilli, the first prevalence of morbilli in Korea and the transmission of morbilli between Korea and Japan, treating of materials obtained mainly from Wang-Jo-Sil-Rok (Actual Record of Lee Dyna-sty) and the medical classics produced in the period of Lee Dynasty.
The author has come to the following conclusions:
(1) The usual names signifying morbilli have been Ban-Jin(), Hong-Yuk
{), Hong-Jin( ), and there has been for use of the professional
medicals the name, Ma-Jin().
(2) They attributed the aetiology of morbilli primarily to demons, secondarily
to poisoning due to internal disorder and to astrological influences.
(3) The first prevalence of morbilli in Korea found in the domestic literatures
is in the 15th year of King Myung-long (1560 Christian era).
(4) It is supposed that the morbilli in China invaded into Korea to be trans-mitted to Japan after prevailing in the whole land of Korea..
